Sorry it took a while to respond to all of you. it may make them lift their game if there is a problem and provide feedback to the manufacturer if it's not them. Oh well, I am going to try and buy another set hoping that the ones i bought back in 2011 are improved upon or I got a bad set last time.ĭoes anyone have a recommendation or are they all made by the same company? I tried to show him the difference in the OE vs Repro and he just said they don''t see it. ![]() When I asked him if they ever installed these before, he said no. The pontiac restoration parts company (who shall remain nameless) tried to tell me it was the installer. I bought these repro header molding back in 2011 and when i tried to install them, fall of 2014, I realized there was a quality issue. I also notice that the lip on the passenger side header molding was longer or deeper than the drivers side. My passenger side header molding did drop below the upper w/s molding, but my drivers side had a considerable gap between the header molding lip and the upper w/s modling. In my case I even used a thicker windshield and 3/8" butyl to try and keep the windshield high enough so the moldings around the windshield would have no gap and the moldings would be kept higher so the chrome header molding lip would fall below the upper windshield molding. IMO the front lip of the header molding should wrap over the front edge of the header and the lip should drop below the upper windshield trim. I had an issue with a gap across the upper windshield molding where the front edge of convertible top header molding lip meets it. I'll check to bottom stainless tomorrow and let you know what I have.Hoping someone can help. It takes a lot of time to get it right but I think in the long run it will be better then the cheap repo stuff. I have never worked on stainless before but its going pretty good. I have started to restore my stainless moldings, they have quite a few dings. My pillar chrome is pretty good so I can reuse it, I would prefer to have an original part in good condition over a repo part in new condition. After I got it on I noticed the pillar chrome does need to go on first. Today I finally got my convertible top frame working and fitting like it should, it took 2 days and a lot of trial and error. Does the rounded edge of the clip face inward toward the windshield or outward?Īny pics of the process would be greatly appreciated! Wondering about the positioning of the clips for the rest of the stainless reveal pieces. How many clips are on the bottom piece of stainless, I have 6 still in the piece.ģ. I hear horror stories about the repops, are they that bad for these 2 pieces or do I need to bite the bullet and have mine repaired?Ģ. My pillar chrome pieces have a few fairly bad creases and dents. ![]() Is the pillar chrome the first parts to install and then the top header chrome pieces? 2.
